"Ancient Egypt and The Nile"
"Despite Egypt's precarious location, neighboring hotbeds of Islamic extremist sympathizers and terrorists, I wanted to visit the cradle of
our civilization. I wanted to see the majestic Nile, the Great Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza in reality, not just pictures in books. I wanted
to experience their ancient mystical energy, if there was any, and to see how they have survived these past four thousand years amidst cultures
seemingly destined to self-destruct."

Getting around in Egypt
Taking in the sights and sounds of Egypt involved several modes of transportation. Desert mile-eating Arabian horses were her #1 choice, but Patricia also tried out a camel - not as comfortable, but well suited to posing in front of the pyramids! The Felucca is an Egyptian sailboat, very popular for cruising up and down the Nile River. A hot-air balloon ride over the Nile River Valley was a surprisingly pleasant experience! Carriage rides into town were taken by many of the visitors, including Patricia and her friends - with admonitions from their guide!
Riding in Egypt
Patricia is riding 'Nayzak', one of the horses at 'Recoub Al Sorat'. Visit Maryanne Gabbani's website for some great photos and a look into Egypt "Face to Face"!
"The Sphinx, staring due east, guards the slope below the pyramids and is purportedly a couple thousand years older. The massive stone head lost much of its nose and beard when used for target practice by the Mamluke and Napoleonic troops. However, the pharaoh’s headdress still created a visage eternal to the toll of time. "
"All-in-all I found the Egyptians friendlier than anticipated, the Nile cleaner than expected, the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx more commercial than I’d imagined, and the temples - I had no preconceived notions about them - they’re temples and they’re ancient!"
Patricia experienced Egypt first hand, and once more she is sharing her impressions of a civilization and culture that is very different from our own. The history - ancient and compelling - is perhaps the draw for us that would follow in Patricia's footsteps - tombs, temples, the Sphinx and Pyramids, written about here from today's perspective and yesterday's romance! Well written and well worth reading.
